Routines
A routine is a task a bot does on its own, on a schedule or when another service calls it. Use one for a morning summary, a weekly report, or a check every hour.
Each routine belongs to one bot and runs with that bot's engine, apps and approval settings. Its results show up in the bot's chat.
Find a bot's routines
- Desktop: open the bot's details panel, beside the chat. Routines are listed there.
- iPhone and Android: open the bot, then More → Routines.
- Terminal: select the bot and open its routines.
Each routine shows its name, when it runs and an on/off switch.
Create a routine
By asking the bot
The quickest way. In the bot's chat, the routine button fills the message box with “I want a routine that”. Finish the sentence:
I want a routine that sends me yesterday's sales every weekday at 9:00.
The bot asks only about what is missing, such as the time zone, then saves the routine and tells you the schedule and the next run. It always uses Mexerica's own routines, never your system's cron, so every routine stays visible, pausable and deletable in the app.
Only you can create or change routines. A bot changes a routine only when you ask in its chat. Requests that come from another routine, a webhook or another bot can't create, change, pause or delete one.
Ask the bot for what the form doesn't offer: a one-time run, an interval, events from another service, or several triggers on one routine.
In the form
Choose + in the routine list and fill in:
- Name and Instruction: what the bot does each time.
- When to run: Schedule or Webhook.
- Timeout: how long a run may take.
For a schedule, pick how often it repeats (Hourly, Daily, Weekdays, Weekly, or Custom for a five-field cron), the time and day, and a time zone (yours by default; type to filter the list). The Hub shows how it read the schedule and the next run.
In the terminal, press n and type when it runs: daily 09:00, weekdays 09:00, weekly mon 09:00, hourly :30, every 2h, a cron, or webhook, optionally followed by a time zone (Tab completes it).
Triggers
| Trigger | When it runs | Set up |
|---|---|---|
| Schedule | On a calendar schedule, in the time zone you choose. | Form or bot |
| Webhook | Each time an authenticated call reaches its address. | Form or bot |
| Once | One time, at a future date and time. | Bot |
| Interval | Every so many minutes, hours or days. | Bot |
| Event | When another service reports something, such as a new GitHub issue. | Bot |
Schedules work today. Webhook and event triggers are rolling out; until they reach your version, the app shows them but doesn't run them.
A saved webhook routine shows its address and key: copy, reveal or replace them (replacing asks you to confirm).
Run now, pause, delete
- Run now runs the routine for real, with its effects. It is not a simulation.
- Pause with the routine's switch. A paused routine has no next run.
- Delete from the routine's form. What it already posted stays in the chat.
Where results appear
Each run posts in the bot's chat. Replying to a result continues your normal conversation with the bot. If a run needs an approval, it waits for you on a card, like any other request.
